那覇港では、1980年代後半から防波堤の消波ブロックにサンゴが着生し、成長している姿が見られるようになりました。このため、1989年(平成元年)からサンゴの実態調査が、継続して実施されています。以来、那覇港のサンゴは順調に成長しているのが観測されてきましたが、1998年(Ｈ10年)の大規模な白化現象により、沖縄本島のサンゴは全域にわたって壊滅状態に陥り、那覇港のサンゴも衰退しました。上記写真で、Ｈ9年撮影の3枚は白化前の状況で、天然礁と遜色ない生物相と景観を呈しています。Ｈ11年の写真は白化の1年後で、サンゴが死滅した状況が分かります。しかし最近ではＨ17年の写真に見るように、サンゴが回復してきています。(写真はすべて新港第1防波堤の消波ブロックです。)

日本政府観光局が18日発表した10月の訪日外国人客数（概算値）は、前年同月比43.8％増の182万9300人だった。単月では２番目の多さとなった。円安が進み日本での買い物が割安になったほか、格安航空会社（ＬＣＣ）の路線増加や、消費税の免税制度の拡充が奏功した。中国で10月初旬に建国記念日にあたる国慶節の大型連休があったことも、押し上げ要因になった。ロシアを除く欧米各国からの訪日客数も、軒並み10月としては過去最高を更新した。

　地域別では中国が一番多く、前年同月比99.6％増の44万5600人に達し、全体に占める比率は24％だった。中国から日本にやってくるクルーズ船は前年の12隻から46隻に増加。船が満席だったと仮定すると約11万人が訪れたことになる。ただ、訪日中国人客数の増加率は９月（99.6％）から上昇しておらず、伸びは鈍化傾向にある。

　その他の地域では、韓国が48.6％増の37万800人、台湾が32.0％増の34万3600人となった。主要20市場のうち、カナダとドイツからの訪日客数は単月で過去最高だった。そのほかの17市場でも10月としては過去最高を記録した。

　全ての国・地域の2015年累計（１～10月）では前年同期比48.2％増の1631万6900人だった。暦年では過去最高を更新している。
