１日の東京株式市場で日経平均株価は小幅に続伸した。終値は前日比39円44銭（0.23％）高の１万6926円84銭と６月１日以来、３カ月ぶりの高値を付けた。為替相場が１ドル＝103円台と円安・ドル高基調が続き、採算悪化の懸念が後退した輸出関連株に買いが優勢だった。中国国家統計局などが午前に発表した８月の中国製造業購買担当者景気指数（ＰＭＩ）が前月から改善し、中国の景気減速への懸念が和らいだのも日本株を支えた。

日経平均の上値は限定的で、午前は下げる場面もあった。心理的な節目の１万7000円を前に、利益を確定する売りが出やすかった。８月31日の米国株や原油相場の下落も日本株の重荷だった。２日発表の８月の米雇用統計を見極めたいとの雰囲気が次第に強まり、午後は相場の膠着感が強まった。

トヨタや富士重の自動車株や三菱ＵＦＪや三井住友ＦＧのメガバンク株に上げが目立った。ＫＤＤＩやＮＴＴドコモの情報・通信株、村田製やアルプスの電子部品株も上昇した。任天堂も高い。半面、原油安で国際石開帝石や石油資源といった石油関連株に売りが膨らんだ。ファストリやファナックなど値がさ株も下げた。

ＪＰＸ日経インデックス400は４日続伸し、65.91ポイント（0.55％）高の１万2033.47だった。東証株価指数（ＴＯＰＩＸ）は続伸し、7.84ポイント（0.59％）高の1337.38だった。

東証１部の売買代金は概算で１兆9541億円だった。売買高は18億4374万株だった。東証１部の値上がり銘柄数は1182銘柄と全体の約６割を占めた。値下がりは656、変わらずは134銘柄だった。

東証２部株価指数は４営業日ぶりに反落した。ジー・スリーやＡＳＴＩが下げ、岡本工や安川情報が上げた。

１日の新興企業向け株式市場で、日経ジャスダック平均株価は小幅に４日続伸した。終値は前日比２円69銭（0.11％）高い2469円70銭だった。材料の出た中小型株を個別に物色する流れが続いた。全般に手がかりとなる材料に乏しかったうえ、週末に米利上げの先行きを占ううえで重要な８月の米雇用統計の発表を控え、新興株市場でも積極的な売買は手控えられた。

ジャスダック市場の売買代金は概算で370億円、売買高は7349万株だった。アストマクスやアエリア、アバールが上昇した。半面、カルナバイオや極楽湯、平田機工は下落した。

東証マザーズ指数も小幅に４日続伸した。終値は前日比6.59ポイント（0.73％）高い910.50だった。カヤックやサイバダイン、ＡＷＳＨＤの値上がりが目立った。そーせいやグリンペプ、ミクシィが下げた。
